Discovering Tangrams

As you all know, we are starting our geometry unit and will be working with tangrams.

A tangram is an ancient chinese puzzle, consisting of 7 geometric shapes. The word "tangram" means Chinese drawing. Click here to get your own tangram puzzle that you may print, cut out and keep for later.

Below is a great activity to get you started. Here is what you are going to do. Try to recreate as many tangram shapes as you can that are displayed on the web page.

Can you remember which tans are congruent? Write it down in your math journal and we will see tomorrow who guessed it right!

Remember you can use the math dictionnary on my blog for help with unfamiliar words.
